IHM students begin and end each day with prayer. Students attend Mass on Tuesdays and on all holy days. Parents are welcome to join their students for any of these celebrations. During Mass, middle school students serve as Ministers of Hospitality, Lectors, Kindergarten and Pre-K Helpers. Students also serve as the Mass choir, gift bearers and altar servers.
The Sacraments of Reconciliation and The Eucharist are celebrated in the 2nd grade. Students receive instruction on how to prepare for these sacraments during their Religion class.
5th grade students participate in an Archdiocesan Vocations Day. During Lent, all IHM students will have a Day of Reflection.
Each Fall our 6th and 7th grade students attend a retreat - 6th for one day, and 7th overnight. This Encounter Retreat gives the students an opportunity to further their spiritual and physical growth in a beautiful setting away from school. Students in grade 8 also participate in a Fall, Unity Retreat to spend time deepening their faith while bonding with their fellow classmates and teachers.
Service is how IHM School puts faith into action! Students have the opportunity to participate in 26 service projects throughout the year in support of local and national organizations. Some school-wide projects include care packages for the military, sack lunches for the Central Night Shelter guests, Box of Joy for children in need, and Catholic Charities' toy and clothing drives. For middle school students, service to others in the local community is an awesome expectation! Whether it is spending time with the students at Margaret Harris Comprehensive School, preparing meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, or playing cards and Bingo with seniors living at Briarcliff Oaks Retirement Home, our middle schoolers are actively engaged with the local community resulting in a deeper understanding of their faith.
